Founded in 2024, Derby City Pigeon Rescue is a Louisville-based (nonprofit-status pending) organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of domestic pigeons and doves in need. Founded with compassion and care at its core, our mission is to give these often-overlooked birds the second chance they deserve.

Unlike many animals, domestic pigeons and invasive doves fall through the cracks of traditional rescue systems. They aren’t protected as wildlife, and they’re not typically supported by shelters or animal control. This leaves them vulnerable when abandoned, injured, or displaced—especially in urban environments where they’re frequently misunderstood.

At Derby City Pigeon Rescue, we know the truth about these incredible birds: pigeons are smart, sensitive, and full of personality. They form deep bonds, communicate clearly, and adapt beautifully to home life. Despite public misconceptions, they make affectionate, peaceful companions and are just as deserving of love and protection as any dog or cat.

Through rescue efforts, fostering programs, education, and advocacy, we’re working to build a community where pigeons and doves are valued and safe. Whether it’s a lost pet, a neglected racing pigeon, or a dove released during a ceremony, we believe every bird deserves a chance to thrive.
